This book is wonderful. I just found a copy today at my local Good Will. I wish I had known about it when my husband died over a year and a half ago. As other's mentioned, it's good for any kind of loss. The contents include sections on Understanding Loss, Surviving, Healing, and Growing. There are so many good things in this book, that you can take parts of it and use it for many other things you're going through in your life. I highly recommend it if you have suffered a loss, or for a gift to someone you care about that has suffered a loss. You'll never regret it.
I have bought so many copies of this book I need to buy stock. First time someone gave me a copy in 1984 when my dad died I threw it in the closet thinking no book will ever help me. Four years later my mother died. I found the book in my closet. I read it: It helped me.I read it when I broke up with the love of my life: It helped.I read it when my furry little friend died; when my other furry little friend died; When I got divorced; When my next furry little friend died; When I lost out on a job; When I got fired from my job.......I read this book so much I should have it memorized.Now whenever someone close to me experiences a loss I get them a copy of this book.I have watched the cover change over the years. I so wish they would go back to the gold & white cover.Thank you for this book.

I have this book for myself, and have given copies of it to several friends who have lost loved ones to death, break-ups, or even loss of a job. This is an incredible reference that I continue to go back to as needed, and I will always find something new every time I open the cover. I can not stress what a great little book this is for everyone.It's an easy read - nothing heavy, it's just stuffed with really good hints and helpful ideas on how to survive any type of loss. Each page has ideas for getting through the daily challenges one might be facing.I can't recommend it highly enough. Worth the time to read!
I do not recall all details of this book, I do however recall reading in one or two sittings at the beach trying anything to pass through the grief of a break up. I recall feeling inspired and understood. Seems we all pretty much go throw go the same things with some differences.I have the unfortunate opportunity to watch my own daughter go through the struggle of her grieving after a relationship and thought of this book. I purchased it to help ease the pain and let her know, she wasn’t alone, this will pass.She seemed to really appreciated it.If you’re dealing with grieving a loss it’s a wonderful quick read.
I bought this after I divorced. I found it equally as helpful when getting an unwanted medical diagnosis. It was so comforting to me, and I've shared it with others many times. It's applicable to all kinds of losses....not just the loss of people we love. Highly recommend.
I have given this little book to several people who are going through various losses or emotional battles. Someone gave it to me years ago when I was suffering depression and I can't tell you how much it helped me to get through that hard time...even though it wasn't addressing the same issue I was having, there was somehow a lot of comfort in those words. Highly recommend it for the broken-hearted, or anyone who needs company in their suffering!!
I had to buy this for a class on grief & loss. While I personally didn't like the book or feel that I would connect with it in a time of loss I can see why others would. It tackles topics in very short, easy to digest ways. Minimal information so as not to overwhelm, but still get the wheels turning, so to speak. For someone in need of that and who also connects with poetry, this would be great.
This book is for anyone who has suffered any kind of loss. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, a pet, a relationship, a special item/place/job no matter what. It will help you cope with the loss. It is one of the simplest books to read. Not the normal book where you must read it front to back to gain feeling better. This book allows you to skip around wherever and whichever chapters make you feel better at any particular time. Each chapter is only 2 pages long. One page describes a feeling or something similar - such as: Chapter 22 - Surround Yourself With Things That Are Alive. Then it describes somethings. The opposite page has a short poem. Each chapter is this way each with a short poem.As I said this makes it very easy to read and you can read as much or as little at a time as you want to.I have used it for many types of losses in my own life, and I have given copies to many friends who have used it as well. I highly recommend it.
